A healthy gut lays the foundation for a healthy mind and body. It’s been shown time after time that the digestive system can be a source of inflammation which is manifested anywhere in the body. This means that a less than optimal digestive system can be a cause for:
Bloating
Eczema
Acne
Joint pain
Water retention
Brain fog
Etc.
Getting to the bottom of gut imbalances requires a combination of the right therapies, including diet adjustments, balancing the gut microbiome, tonification of the the digestive system (digestive enzymes, bile, hydrochloric acid, etc), and healing the gut lining. This last one, healing the gut lining is important as that surface, all 30 feet of it, is needed to produce digestive enzymes and absorb all the good nutrients we get from our food.
For healing that gut lining, this is my favourite smoothie!
Gut Healing Smoothie
Makes 1 big smoothie or 2 medium smoothies
Ingredients:
1 cup cucumber
1/4 cup mango (frozen)
1 inch piece of banana
1/2 inch piece of fresh ginger, peeled
Juice of 1/2 lime
3 inch piece of fresh aloe vera leaf, peeled
1 to 2 Tbsp unflavoured collagen powder
Place all ingredients with 2 cups of water (more or less depending on how thick you like your smoothie).
Blend until smooth and enjoy!
