Tracking your diet is a useful tool to give you insight on your health habits. Most of us don’t remember what we had for lunch or dinner yesterday, and we may not remember the three pieces of chocolate we had earlier that same day… Writing it down can also help us evaluate our nutrient intake - protein with meals, fiber, fruits, vegetables, etc.
There are many tools online that can track in great detail. Using pen and paper can also be a good tool, taking it out at the end of the day to reflect on the day. Use this kind of tool for at least a few weeks, chances are it will give you a very good idea of how you’re eating. You can also use it longer as an accountability tool to yourself if you’re working on improving your eating habits!
Here is an example of a diet diary you can use, but feel free to create your own or use a digital tool. Write in as much detail as you can, including portion sizes when possible, and the number of glasses of water you have in a day. Use the second part of the template to track symptoms and habits.
